Google Image Thursday - #3 "build"

This week I searched for "building" and I thought I would find some really cool picture of a building some where that I have never been. Sadly I was wrong... So I changed the search to "build" and what to you know. I came across a gas powered blender on Hack A Day. Why anyone would need this is beyond me.

No Space Day

So a week or so ago I turned on a site called www.nospaceday.com. Its goal was to see if I could get people to do something. Mainly to get people not to use online social networks for a single day.

Well some of the folks on StumbleUpon have given it a fair chance and actually thought about what I was trying to do. Others however were pretty negative about it, which to me is rather odd. As my experience with other SU members has mostly been a good one I have never seen this kind of response to something that has been reviewed on SU. I realize that all view points are to be valued however it is utterly amazing at the amount of negativity spawned from this.

Oh well. I'll just find other people who will do it.

Google Image Thursday - #2 "incompetence"

In light of events at work today I will do a search for "incompetence" and while I didn't come directly to Despair, Inc. I did come across one of their images. Incompetence by Despair I think sums up what I just went though at work. It makes one wonder how people get jobs...

nothing of note

Its raining and 62 degrees in the middle of January...

Nothing to note has really taken place lately. I've been working like crazy trying to get our project at work out. Which has been a bit frustrating at times, because some of the team members really aren't being team members. Oh well... I guess thats life.

I took Val out for dinner to P.F. Changs for her birthday which was fun and tasty.

Google Image Thursday - #1 "blogs"

So this is my first post of a weekly installment where I will scour the internet (Google) for an interesting image based on a search term. I will offer my witty commentary for your amusement. This weeks search term is: blogs. Rather fitting I would have to say. Now my search reviled quite a few pictures and images for other blogs. I noticed in particular that quite a few came from blogs.com (surprise!). I found two images that I thought I would be worthy to share but I only picked one. It is an matrix of the use of blogs found at EdTechPost.

social networking

So what is it about social networking on the internet these days? Now don't get me wrong I'm on the bandwagon too. I've got the myspace, stumble, del.icio.us and others. But it really makes me wonder about the way that these digital social networks effect our lives and how we as a society interact with each other. I got thinking one day to see how much I actually use social networking sites in a day. After a few days of making notes about my usage I found that on average I spend 3-4 hours a day using some sort of online social network. So I figured I could do something constructive with the time I spend on social networking site and started www.nospaceday.com. Basically do something other then use your social networking sites on Oct. 10th 2007.

digg and one persons site stats

So as a lot of people I found myself looking at an RSS feed of Digg's home page. I saw a post about the analytics of Digg so I thought to myself "oh hey Digg opened up their webstats cool!". Sadly I was wrong and Digg didn't open up their stats. But alas it was one persons traffic from one article of his that was submitted to Digg. It is not, as the author totes it as, an ACTUAL representation of Digg users. What it does give is an idea of the demographic of people who use Digg and are interested in Napoleon, Microsoft and Google. From this we can make certain assumptions about all Digg users, but thats all they are, assumptions. Clarification and details go a long way...
