incompetence

So here I am at work. We've been working with a vendor of ours to develop our marketing website. Well this vendor is a marketing firm that does websites. Unfortunately we don't have the time or the resources to build it ourselves, so I've been asked to help them figure out how to write html apparently. One would assume that if a given person is given detailed instructions examples and everything needed to accomplish a task that the given person could the complete the task if only they have the most basic understanding of the task and the technology used.

In the field that I am in there are many tricks that we employ to make different web browsers to behave near about the same. So naturally one would assume that if a person is in this field they would understand some of the basics of these tricks or at least know that they are there to be used. This however was not the case. It makes me wonder how many other so-called web developers who don't really know the trade. I'm not talking about the 15 year old who does websites for a couple of hundred dollars, I'm talking about the folks who still rely on Dreamweaver to make their tables for them and charge ten grand or more. Maybe thats what will in the end set myself and others apart. The sad thing is that most people won't know the difference.

As a side note I may not post for the next week as I'm not sure what my internet access will be like.
